EuroPal BMS container management system - automated destacking of containers/boxes directly from the floor roller and/or stacking directly on floor roller

The use of totes and plastic crates in combination with trolleys is very common in today's intralogistics and manufacturing processes and has become an absolute standard. Containers and trolleys are used in production processes to transport parts, piece goods, workpieces or products, sometimes with heavy weights, efficiently and flexibly from one station to the next, and thus through the entire production/manufacturing process - safely, efficiently and quickly.

Although containers in combination with trolleys offer many advantages, there are also potential disadvantages:

  • High manual effort: Although containers and trolleys can help to facilitate material handling, they still require manual operations such as separating, loading, unloading and stacking containers or trolleys. This can be time-consuming, less ergonomic and increase the risk of labour errors.
  • Interface problems: Interface problems can occur when containers or trolleys have to be transferred from one station to the next or when transferring containers to different conveyor technologies is involved.

Especially the interface problem in combination with height bridging from trolleys to a conveyor system is a big problem. Containers have to be fed and discharged on floor rollers, containers have to be removed from trolleys and, for example, transferred to a roller conveyor for further transport, containers have to be provided or transferred individually, filled containers have to be placed back on the trolley and stacked by hand, etc.

Especially for containers with high weights and high performance requirements, the manual handling of containers becomes a sweaty challenge with many manual work steps and little autonomy. But now there is a fully automated solution that solves all these problems: the EuroPal BMS container management system from modular automation for container sizes 400x300, 600x400 and 800x600.

EuroPal BMS64 - Unstack stack of containers from trolley, stack on floor roller

The EuroPal BMS container management system was developed precisely to enable the fully automated infeed and outfeed of trolleys with containers, to be an optimal interface and transfer station, and to represent a fully automated buffer system for trolleys and KLT containers.

The EuroPal BMS container stacking system is an automatic stacking system with which containers or entire container stacks are picked up, destacked and separated directly from a floor roller in a fully automated manner and transferred to the downstream process (e.g. roller conveyor, filling/loading station, assembly process, packaging process, machine operator, etc.). The EuroPal BMS also takes over the formation of container stacks from individual containers and the automated depositing of entire container stacks directly onto the floor roller provided.

From the automated, zero pressure accumulation transport of the tote stacks on floor rollers to an optional, integrated friction conveyor system and the entire destacking and stacking process, the EuroPal BMS stacking system offers all functions combined in one system.

Especially in combination with AGVs, the degree of automation in your production can be increased to a maximum. The EuroPal BMS container management system takes on the following tasks and thus represents a self-contained, fully automated stacking system:

Features and functions:

  • Automated feeding or zero pressure accumulation transport of container stacks on trolleys/floor rollers to the stacking process by means of a friction conveyor system (optional).
  • Manual feeding of entire container stacks on trolleys by machine operators to EuroPal BMS
  • Automated removal of the entire stack of containers directly from the trolley/floor roller/trolley
  • Automated destacking and separation of the containers from the container stack and transfer to the downstream process (e.g. filling, removal, material supply, assembly, etc.)
  • Bridging height differences: Automated removal of container stacks from the trolley and transfer as stacks or individual containers, e.g. to roller conveyor technology.
  • Automated stacking and merging of individual containers into a container stack out of the process
  • Automated depositing of the formed container stacks directly onto the trolley/floor roller/trolley
  • Automated provision and transfer of the emptied trolley to the loading process, where the container stacks are deposited on the transferred trolley. (Optional)
  • Automated transport of the trolley with container stacks to the removal position by means of a friction conveyor (optional)
  • Manual feeding and removal of the trolleys with container stacks is possible. As is the interaction with AGVs (automated guided vehicles) by means of interfaces on the friction conveyor systems.

Typical areas of application and tasks for the EuroPal BMS container management system

  • Container buffer / container storage - Buffer for containers (buffer system) - Accommodate many containers in the smallest space (footprint).
  • Increased autonomy and unmanned production: Fully automated container feeding, separation of containers, stacking and destacking of containers directly from the trolley / floor roller, automatic container separation, positioning for loading or unloading process,
  • Transfer of totes and/or tote stacks from trolley, AGV with trolley directly onto roller conveyor (conveyor technology) - height bridging without manual work.
  • Improvement of ergonomics and safety: No more manual loading and unloading of heavy totes, increase of safety for your employees, also improvement of working conditions and health as no heavy loads have to be lifted.
  • Elimination of waiting times for machine operators by increasing autonomy: Your employees only have to feed trolleys with stacks of containers and can pick them up again after the processing time is over. During this time, the system works autonomously. AGVs can further increase the degree of automation.
