Seven production lines for Africa's largest sugar producer - Link chain conveyor system from modular automation

In cooperation with a German packaging machine manufacturer, modular automation developed seven conveyor lines for Africa's largest sugar producer in Algeria. The newly developed system transports the sugar packs, as well as the grouped and tightly wrapped packs after the packaging line. modular automation was responsible for the planning, construction, assembly and commissioning of the seven conveyor systems.

  • Used systems: FM and FH system in combination with Kevlar conveyor chain and steel slide rail

Link chain conveyor with kevlar conveyor chain and steel slide rail against wear and tear

The project was divided into a total of seven link chain conveyor lines on which sugar packaging and complete containers are transported. Transport is carried out from filling and packaging to subsequent palletizing of the sugar bundles. Each conveyor line consists of 12 belt sections, resulting in a total conveyor length of 120 metres. The total length of the project is more than 800 metres.

For the conveyor lines, modular automation's link chain systems FM (85 mm track width) and FH (105 mm track width) were used. A special feature is that a Kevlar conveyor link chain in combination with a steel slide rail has been used on all conveyor lines to prevent wear due to abrasion. Sugar is a very abrasive material with a very abrasive and abrasive effect.

Conveying capacity, conveying distance and line course of the link chain conveyor system

The conveyor lines run over two levels and bridge a height difference of seven metres. All seven lines run parallel to each other and transport the sugar packages and packs from the packaging machines to the final palletizing process, from where the pallets are loaded directly into trucks for delivery. The conveying capacity of the plant is approx. 2000 sugar packages per minute. The conveying speed of the plant is 40-60 meters per minute.
